Measurement Methods
- • Waist circumference: Measure at navel level while breathing out naturally
- • Neck circumference: Measure at the narrowest part of neck, below Adam's apple
- • Hip circumference (Female): Measure at the widest part of hips
Accuracy
The U.S. Navy formula has an error range of approximately ±3-4% compared to DEXA scans. It's a relatively accurate and convenient method, but individual variations may exist.
Precautions
- • Measurements are most accurate when taken in the morning on an empty stomach
- • Avoid measuring after exercise or meals
- • For accurate measurement, don't pull the tape too tight or leave it too loose
- • For athletes with high muscle mass, results may be higher than actual body fat
